Three great reasons to winterize your sprinkler system
Even though we’ve had an unseasonably warm fall, we can always be assured of one thing; winter is coming: is your sprinkler system ready?
Here at Ray Lusk Plumbing, we’re already helping our customers prepare for winter, and we’re ready to help you, too. That last thing that you need is for water to be left in your sprinkler feeds and burst the lines: that’s when things start getting expensive in a hurry! It’s vital to have your lawn sprinkler system winterized, and here are three reasons why:
Avoid Damage–Sprinkler installation is a substantial investment and freezing temperatures can seriously damage your sprinkler irrigation system if it’s not fully drained. When water freezes, it expands, and the expansion can cause fittings, sprinklers, valves, pumps, pipes and other parts of irrigation systems to burst and break. The only way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to properly drain the lines.
Avoid Voiding Your Warranty-Depending upon who manufactured and installed your irrigation system, it may be recommended that your system be drained using air pressure, known as the “blow out” method. Failure to fully empty the lines could void your warranty if damage occurs from expansion. Our technicians are fully trained on how to properly blow out the lines and secure everything for the winter.
Avoid Unnecessary Repair Expenses–If your system does freeze, the whole system could be rendered useless until the affected components have been repaired or replaced. This process is expensive, but completely avoidable if your system is properly winterized.
